What Wegweiser does

For adults who want to put their emergency planning in order. One folder can hold several people, for example a couple.

    Fifteen categories

    From contacts, health, accounts and insurance to pets and wishes.

  2. 02

    Date of confirmation

    Every entry shows when it was last confirmed. Each category has its own review interval.

  3. 03

    Annual review

    Entries that are due come up one at a time for review. Outdated details are marked in the printout.

  4. 04

    Wallet card and emergency sheet

    Neither contains access credentials, so both may be kept in the open. They can always be printed, even without a licence.

    Complete folder

    All categories, for filing. A check code shows whether a printout is still up to date.

  6. 06

    Gaps pointed out

    Using fixed rules, the program shows where something is still missing from the folder.

Password and key sheet

The folder opens with the password or with a printed key sheet.

Encrypted

The folder and its previous version are encrypted with AES-256.

Keep the key sheet separately

The key sheet does not belong next to the computer, but in a safe deposit box or with a trusted person, for example.

New password

After a password change, the key sheet remains valid.

Anyone who loses both the password and the key sheet loses the contents permanently. There is no way to recover it.

As long as no emergency key has been set up, nobody but the user can open the folder, not even Timo Britz.

Emergency key for relatives

With it, named persons can access the folder after the user's death, even without the password and key sheet.

Emergency key: at most two trusted persons, can be switched off at any time.
  • Off by default. Switching it on and off in the program is free of charge.
  • At most two trusted persons, with name and place of residence.
  • The folder stays on the computer. Timo Britz never receives it.
  • Documents required in an emergency: the emergency key, a certified death certificate and the named person's identity document.
  • Seven-day waiting period. During this time, heirs can object.
  • €49 per unlock, paid in advance to Timo Britz by invoice and bank transfer.
  • No fixed term. The service runs for as long as Timo Britz offers it.
What happens in an emergency
  1. A named person writes to info@timobritz.de and sends the documents.
  2. If an heir objects, the folder is only unlocked if all heirs agree or a court orders it.
  3. After the waiting period and payment, an unlock code arrives by e-mail. It opens the folder in the program.

What switching it on creates

The program places a file next to the folder and does not send it. Timo Britz only receives it from the relatives in an emergency. The folder can be opened only with this file together with a secret key held by Timo Britz.

Switching off deletes the file. Printed sheets only stop working once a new data key has been created.

Requirements and limitations

Printing goes through the browser, on paper or as a PDF.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 from version 1809, or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • WebView2 from Microsoft, already included in Windows 11.
  • 58 MB of disk space.
  • No administrator rights needed.
  • No AI and no language model.

What Wegweiser cannot do

It does not create powers of attorney or directives. It records whether they exist and where they are kept.

No medical advice

Health details are entered by the user.

Printers

A clean print of the wallet card is not guaranteed on every printer.

No outside review

Timo Britz reviewed the security himself. There is no independent audit.

Privacy

Wegweiser sends nothing to the internet. The folder never leaves the computer. There is no account, no sign-in and no telemetry.

  • The folder is stored encrypted in the data directory on the local computer.
  • Health information stays on the local computer. Timo Britz receives none of it.
  • Unencrypted storage applies to the licence (name, e-mail, licence number) and the printouts.
  • Printouts with access credentials are kept in the “Vertraulich” (confidential) directory until they are cleared in the program.
  • New releases are announced on this page. The program does not check for them.
  • One connection stays on the computer: During setup the program checks whether a language model is running on the computer. No data from the folder is transmitted.

Purchasing will be enabled shortly. Payment is made via Digistore24. The licence is issued by hand and sent by e-mail, usually on the same working day and at the latest within two working days of payment. Use of the program is governed by the terms of use.

Trial mode

Without a licence, 15 entries can be created. Viewing and exporting remain possible after that.

The program checks the licence without the internet. Until it arrives, trial mode continues.

Uninstalling leaves the data directory with the folder in place.

The program is not signed. Windows SmartScreen therefore shows a warning on first start. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway” to continue.

On a freshly set up Windows 11, Smart App Control can block the start entirely.
